The San Beda College of Law condemns in the strongest possible terms the premeditated and treacherous attack made on its law students after the last Sunday of the bar examinations. The attack was unprovoked and the explosive device used was clearly meant to harm and kill. At least 47 law students, mostly female and members of a law sorority were injured with some of them requiring serious medical attention.
We have confidence that the police authorities will conduct a thorough probe. We will continue to coordinate with them and to monitor the progress of their investigation to ensure that everybody who is shown to have been involved in this barbaric act is charged and prosecuted. This act will not go unpunished.
Rev. Fr. Rector Aloysius Maranan, OSB with members of the law school administration visited the various hospitals where some students were taken Sunday night and were appraised by hospital authorities of their condition. The Rt. Rev. Fr. Abbott-Chancellor Tarcisio Ma. H. Narciso, OSB also visited some of the seriously injured students this morning. The entire Benedictine community will continue to pray for our students and their parents in this difficult period.
San Beda College will continue to extend needed assistance, financial and moral to our students, including those who have not been directly hurt but have been traumatized by this attack on their classmates and friends. Our College of Medicine has offered its help to monitor the condition of students who have been admitted in various hospitals for treatment. Bedan administrators and professionals have offered psychological counseling to those who may need it.
At the moment, school efforts are directed to making sure that all our students who were hurt are given the needed help and to assure their parents and the Bedan community that everything humanly possible is being done to return their lives to normalcy. Other issues including the possible involvement of unrecognized campus organizations will be looked into at the proper time and thereafter steps shall be taken to strengthen the sense of Bedan community.
