(For Court of Appeals Justices Remedios Fernando, Monina Arevalo-Zenarosa, and Myrna Dimaranan-Vidal)
Know all men and women by these presents:
that once upon a time in this “country of our sorrows”,
there were three lady magistrates
who allowed a convicted rapist to walk away.
To them, what took place was not rape
but a mere “spontaneous unplanned romantic episode”,
and we owe them eternal gratitude for the knowledge
that any event in which a man places himself
upon a woman
whose drunkenness has driven her senses and defenses away
is not rape but a mere “spontaneous unplanned romantic episode”.
“Fiat justicia ruat caelum.”
Let the heavens fall on those three lady magistrates
and all the others
in the coterie of Macabebe Scouts and cotton-spined marionettes
running this government.
