Akbayan party-list held a “fun run” last Sunday at the UP Academic Oval to call for a credible and peaceful elections on May 14.
Activists joined hands with athletes, families and friends to express their collective sentiment against possible cheating and intensified violence as election day approaches.
“The past few days has shown us that more and more people are getting killed for political reasons, and it is expected that such incidents would rise as Filipinos prepare to troop to the polls on May 14,” said Akbayan party-list nominee Walden Bello. “This run is intended to express our wishes for peace and the absence of cheating in the elections.”
Donning funny hats denouncing the four G’s: guns, goons, gold and the new G – Garci, Akbayan members together with students from Alyansa-UP Diliman and friends circled the UP academic oval thrice for a total of six kilometers joined by Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros and Prof. Bello. –Akbayan
