TINIG
The Hope

It is discomfiting to be a youth in a "hopeless" country like the Philippines. One is very helpless seeing and hearing his fellow Filipinos scrambling to leave this damned country. The rate of the brain-drain is not only alarming but catastrophic. We are fast losing the best and the brightest in all fields of endeavor and profession.

It is infuriating to hear the scandalous claim from the top government officials (ang malalaking ta*!) that the masses are better off nowadays. In a brazen show of stupidity on the one hand, and guile on the other, the limelight-seekers in Malacañang even used the higher sales of beer and cellphone cards for their fallacious logic.

To be a youth in such a happenstance as the Philippines is to be forced to swallow the wretchedness all around. Lowly peasants massacred for asserting their rights; activists murdered for investigating abuses by the military; military generals wallowing in wealth while foot soldiers are dying in the frontlines; prices skyrocketing; corrupt government officials coddled and recycled; senseless bombings; robbery here and kidnappings there; armed uprising there and armed revolution everywhere. Chaos.

Hopeless as it may seem, but as the "cliché" goes, the youth is the hope of the fatherland. And the motherland too! Well, it comforts me to know that not all the best and brightest youth are leaving the country to serve some foreign masters. It consoles me to know that not all the best and the brightest youth could be forced into serving the bankrupt and corrupt system called Government of the Republic of the Philippines or the profit-hungry capitalists. It is reassuring to know that a significant number of the best and the brightest youth are serving in the 128 guerilla fronts of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front nationwide.

Only an armed revolution could cure the malaise that befell this part of the world. Only an armed struggle can overthrow an utterly corrupt and rotten to the core government of the ruling classes and pave the way to establish a genuine national democracy and sovereignty.
