Statement Denying Any Involvement in So-called Destabilization Plot

I STRONGLY deny the wild accusation of the PNP top officials yesterday that dragged my name into a so-called destabilization plot to derail the proclamation of the presidential and vice-presidential winners in the elections. Of the many charges which the PNP and AFP have long been making against the progressives in this country, this is the most ridiculous.

I know of no destabilization plot, much less am I part of such plot.

I am not a member of the Patriots group but I salute its courageous efforts to monitor fraud and terrorism in the May 10 elections. It is simply ridiculous for the PNP officials to likewise charge Fr. Joe Dizon and the Patriots of being part of destabilization.

The accusation is nothing more than a cheap psywar trick of the PNP in the vain hope of deflecting charges of fraud and terrorism in the recent elections which Fr. Joe Dizon and the Patriots have courageously brought to public attention. The PNP intelligence is so plainly unintelligent to even think that by simply insinuating
that the Communist Party is behind the protest actions, charges of fraud and terrorism can be dismissed outrightly.

If President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is certain that she won in the recent elections, she must stop the AFP and PNP from creating scenarios of destabilization.

The PNP accusation is a continuation of the violence and intimidation being inflicted against Bayan Muna and other progressive parties to prevent them from gaining seats in the House of Representatives. Already, 43 members of Bayan Muna have been killed since 2001, 9 of them during the election period. But this
did not stop people from making Bayan Muna No. 1 in the party-list elections. By insinuating that I am part of a destabilization plot, are police officials now threatening to prevent Bayan Muna from being proclaimed?

I have been working for Bayan Muna since 2001 when it participated and topped the patry-list elections. I have been with Selda since 1986, actively campaigning for the compensation of the victims of human rights violations during martial law. I have also served as consultant in the peace negotiations with the GRP and NDFP.

I was abducted and arrested in June 1999 by the ISAFP and released from prison because of popular protests about my unjust detention. I hope that the police officials' accusations about my involvement in the destabilization is not a justification for my impending arrest.
