SOMETIMES OUR allowances are not enough for our everyday expenses
due to our country's economic condition. Most of us are looking
for part time jobs to earn money, so they can pay their tuition
fees, buy books, help their parents in paying household bills, and
etc.
I.
I met these two Accountancy students. They both have part-time
jobs. They give services to the students by helping them in their
most difficult subjects. They don't want to reveal their real names
to avoid controversies, so let's call them by their nicknames, Peace
and Zashikibuta. According to their classmates and professors, they
are outstanding students.
In 2001, Peace and Zashikibuta started their tutorial services.
According to them, they owe their sincere gratitude to one of the
best professors who referred them to his students. The main reason
why they choose this job is to help the students who are academically
poor and to assist the students in their difficult subjects. According
to Zashikibuta, it is the most manageable job that they can have
due to their hectic schedule. And, they need to find other sources
of income due to the high cost of living. At the same time, they
want to share their knowledge to other students.
The subjects that they mostly teach are Accounting and Finance,
but they are able to teach Math, Science, Chinese, and other difficult
subjects. Zashikibuta is not only focused on the lessons that she
teaches. She also shared her knowledge to her tutees about lessons
in life. Peace also does the same. According to her, some of her
tutees shard their problems, and she is willing to give them advice.
They both find their jobs difficult. Sometimes, it is hard for
them to find solutions to the problems give by their tutees' professors.
And, another problem is time constraint. They really have to arrange
their schedules for their tutees.
They are delighted when they see their tutees improving. However,
they are disappointed when they see their tutees ge low score in
their quizzes: they feel they are not effective.
Approximately, they earn P1,000-above.
Peace's philosophy in life is: "Do your best, and God will
do the rest!" Her message for the readers is: "Don\'t
give importance to the money that you will earn, but give importance
to the help that you can give to other people."
Zashikibuta\'s philosophy in life is: "Always be happy and
have a positive outlook in life because God always makes a way!"
Her message for the readers is: "Don't focus too much on the
lessons you teach. In this kind of job, both of you will learn a
lot of things from each other. And, the most important thing is
you can gain a lot of friends."
II.
Serenity, 20, is a working student. She is a part-time teacher.
Everything that she does is very easy for her because she loves
what she is doing. She loves her family especially her parents.
It breaks her heart if she sees her parents carry all the burdens.
That is the reason she decided to take a part-time job.
She never forget her first day. At that time, she was very nervous.
She prayed to the Lord to give her confidence to teach her students.
Then, she remembered her parents, and that gave her confidence to
teach because they are her inspiration. When she looked at her students'
eyes, she was encouraged to do her best.
She likes her students. According to her, they are cute, naughty,
and smart. She noticed that some of her students listen attentively
during discussions and give their comments later. She says these
students are very remarkable.
"I am not rich like some other people. When I saw those street
children, I began to realize that I am lucky for what I have. Those
children will have a bright future if they are given a chance or
if somebody takes good care of them." - Serenity
She has a vision. After graduation, she will work hard to give
her family a good life. And, she also wanted to help the less fortunate.
For now, she will try to do her best for her academic studies.
I asked her if this is her chosen career. She replied that it is
very pleasurable for her to become a teacher, but she doesn't want
to miss any other opportunities. She also mentions that she loved
to teach her students any subject except history.
She strongly believes in the philosophy that: "The goal of
a teacher is to teach everyone and to help every pupil to understand
the subject matter. Half of the student's life is on the teacher's
hand." Her message for the readers is: "Be yourself! If
you want to be the one, then go for it! But you must have determination,
willingness, and confidence in yourself and in God."
