BUTUAN CITY--Student leaders from the Urious College Supreme Student
Government and the Urian Publication on Septemebr 29 staged a silent
protest against the suppression of their rights to free speech and
press freedom at their school campus.
They were protesting the three-day suspension of Joan P. Libarios,
editor-in-chief of the Urian Publication, and Marlon Labis, president
of the UC-Supreme Student Government after they released a joint statement
asking the administration to explain where their school funds go.
A few weeks before, the chairman of the Committee on Discipline,
Fr. Ronnie Licayan, raised questions on how the Urian Pub. and the
UC-SSG were able post the statement without the approval of the Director
of Student Affairs.
A case hearing was scheduled for the students to explain their side.
These turn of events have disappointed the student leaders.
They said are determined to fight the suppression and to call for
the ouster of Fr. Licayan, who is also the Director of Student Affairs
of Urious College.
