Amado V. Hernandez: People’s Writer
By Alexander Martin Remollino, Bulatlat.com

Because of the sharp and stirring literary expression of the social causes he pursued, Amado V. Hernandez is rightly considered a prime example of the writer as agent of social change and purveyor of people’s culture.

Amado V. Hernandez Versus F4
By Mar-Vic Cagurangan, Today
Organizers of the Amado V. Hernandez Centennial Celebration called a press conference last week to announce the preparations for the commemoration of the National Artist's 100th birthday on September 13. They did not exactly expect an overflow media crowd. But they did not expect a pathetically poor attendance either.

It's F4 vs. Ka Amado

On Sept. 13, friends and supporters of nationalist and literary icon Amado V. Hernandez will celebrate his 100th birthday by holding a poetry night featuring his works at the Folk Arts Theater in Manila. On the same day, the famous Taiwanese boy band F4 will be having their concert in the country. Doubtless, the latter, despite the exorbitant ticket prices, will get more attendance and bigger media mileage than the more meaningful Hernandez affair.

BALITA AT LATHALAIN
Making Sense of the WTO
By Danila Araña Arao, Bulatlat.com
Regardless of one’s stand on the World Trade Organization it is necessary at this point to review what the WTO stands for and what is expected to happen at the fifth ministerial, also known as the Cancun Conference from Sept. 10 to 14. This is especially true if one remains undecided on, or worse indifferent to, what the WTO has done to the life and livelihood of marginalized peoples throughout the world since its establishment in 1995.
