Coffee

I WANT to go to a coffee shop today.

Actually, I just want to go somewhere where I can drink a cup of coffee while looking at the people walking, passing by. Coffee calms and unnerves me. It soothes me and tries to make me feel better. I thought that movies and books do that to me. But I realized recently that movies try to calm me for a while, but coffee makes me feel warm all over. I don't get nervous and jittery because of coffee anymore. That's probably why I can afford to look for it every now and then and have it every now and then.

I don't know how coffee can unnerve me. But everytime I drink it, it seems to unleash something in me. Whenever I am able to philosophize or hold up a good argument, it's because I've been drinking coffee. It may be addictive, but I just can't get enough of it. Right now, I'm yearning for another cup, though I've already had two cups of coffee. Maybe I should prepare one right now.

I love to hang out at coffee shops also. Sitting there alone, with a cup of coffee and probably a pen and paper, is something that I like doing every now and then. I like observing the people around me when I do that. I get to see the business executives holding meetings, trying to woo a potential sponsor or buyer. I get to see college students in different tables, studying or cramming for their tests, midterms, and finals. I get to see couples courting each other over coffee. I get to see first dates, reunions, people who have nothing to do, coffee lovers, coffee addicts, and social coffee drinkers. I get to see a lot of people in coffee shops.

That's probably why I love drinking coffee so much. Because when I drink coffee, that's the only time I am relaxed and have the time. Coffee was never meant to be drunk in a hurry. When you drink your coffee, you have to savor the taste. It's almost like drinking wine. You don't down it with one gulp. You drink it sip by sip and try to make the taste linger in your mouth.

That's coffee for me. Coffee gives me a chance to just stop and savor each passing minute. Coffee gives me the chance to stop and smell the roses. It may be a cliché, but coffee forces you to stop and relax before you face whatever that stops you from your simple pleasures.
