Holiday
in the Slums
By Alexander
Martin Remollino
In the slums
there is no holiday
except a Good Friday that lasts all year.
The very life of a slum dweller
is a long night of agony
in a Gethsemane of shanties, a cross
on a shoulder consumed by hunger
which gives the stomach a kind of pain
like that which plagues a crucified man.
