Pagtatanggol
sa Punong Mahistrado
Katulad
To an Unborn Child
"It was, undoubtedly,
unfair to let you die," writes Samantha, who described
herself as a "poor girl who was not ready to be a mother,
who had no choice but to get rid of her unborn child."
Usapang
Puki
Join James Nicolay as he tells as about "a night of
great oral interpretation". As he reviews the staging of
Usapang Puki--the Filipino version of Vagina Monologues--at the
Aldaba Theater in UP Diliman, he desribes as profound the words
of one of the interpreters: "Ang mga Kristyano ay walang
mga puki."
Tongue-tied:
Centers, Margins, and Their Filipino Tongues
If there is WASP (White, Anglo-Saxon and Protestant) in the USA,
there is KaLaT (Katoliko, Lalaki and Tagalog) in Pilipinas. Dennis
Aguinaldo discusses the formula for the societal power-wielders
in the Philippines and hopes for better treatment of the culturally-marginalized
Filipinos.
War
Against Terror?
"Let us not allow ourselves to be used as pawns in a war
we have nothing to do with," Alexander Martin Remollino
writes against the United States' war of aggression and its military
intervention in the Philippines.
Thoughts
on the Bonifacio Monument
Francis Acero wonders "why the National Historical
Institute wants to save such a decrepit non-landmark like Monumento."
He asks: "Is this how we're supposed to remember Andres Bonifacio?"
as he reminds us that it was Bonifacio, and not anyone else on
our monetary series, who was responsible for the forming of the
Katipunan and giving meaning to the word Filipino.
Sometimes,
That Thing is Just Isn't What It's Cracked Up to Be
"Trouble with most people nowadays," Gilbert Trillana
writes, is that "we treat the four-letter-word as something
to play and mess up with, not to take hold of, reflect deeply,
and cherish it for posterity." Let him share with you his
experience of that four-letter word.
Munting
Pangarap
"Malaya tayong mangangarap, malaya nating maiguguhit ang
isang lipunang tahimik at payapa, at malaya nating mailuluklok
ang isang pamahalaang tumutugon nang sapat sa pangangailangan
ng mga mamamayan," ani Rodel Mayores. Samahan siya
sa pangangarap.
We
Say NO!
Liza B. Lamis of the Women's Desk of the National Council
of Churches in the Philippines writes about the women's resistance
to US military intervention.
She writes that Mary, Jesus' mother, also has words for , the
ever arrogant and self-righteous USA: "'God drags strong
rulers from their throne and uses his powerful arm to scatter
those who are proud." (Luke 1:51-52, CEV).

Ateneo Disapproves Campus Staging of The Vagina Monologues
By Alfred A. Araya Jr.
© CyberDyaryo, 01 March 2002
MOVED BY the power of a play in which women talk about the most
intimate part of their bodies to convey stories of abuse, silenced
sexuality, and violence against women, four young college students
thought it would be a good idea to stage the play within their
campus.

"Okey
'tong videoke mo, pare! Ito talaga ang gustung-gusto naming kantahin
ni Sonya. Palagay ko kakanta kaagad iyon pag-uwi niya. Sayang
nga e, kasi ibebenta ko 'tong VHS player namin, medyo kinakapos
kasi kami ngayon. Ikaw pare, gusto mo ba ng VHS? May discount
pag ikaw ang kumuha. Ano, pare, gusto mo, kukunin mo ba, ha pare,
kukunin mo na, ha?"
